Character Education will be explicitly taught every day. Themes will centre around the 3 main pillars of respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the environment. They will be addressed through book studies, class discussions, and intentional practice of skills.
September to mid-November: Respect
Room 15 has been talking in depth about what it means to show respect for yourself, others, and the environment. They have made lists of examples for each pillar, and committed to putting effort into demonstrating these behaviours. We have participated in traditional Indigenous sharing circles to express thoughts, ideas, and concerns. They have practiced showing respect while others are speaking in the sharing circle and waiting their turn to speak. Please ask your child about sharing circles and expectations during them.
We have discussed topics such as Playground Safety, Expected and Unexpected Behaviours, Whole-Body Listening. Feel free to ask your child about any of those topics and explain to you what they know about them.
